Summer Pawlooza June & July hikes

30May 2021

Over the summer, SGDs will be holding several group dog adventure hikes in West Maui. These hikes are intended to help in training and socialization.  Don’t worry if your dog isn’t great around others yet, these events will give us the opportunity to work on your training. Dogs must be up-to-date on all shots including Parvo & Distemper.  Dogs must be relatively social and friendly around other dogs and people, and be under control by the owner or handler. Please bring plenty of water for yourself and your dog, and sunblock if you need it. We also recommend having high value treats on hand for training.  Dogs must be leashed at the beginning of all hikes.  Off leash will be granted based on each dog’s obedience level.  A long line is recommended if your dog is still working on socialization or Recall.

During the second half of each hike, we will stop to practice our Sit-Stay-Look from a distance for our upcoming Summer Pawlooza Training and Photo Shoot Competition.  Please contact us directly (text or email) to participate in any Dog Adventure Hike.  Updates and cancellations will be posted on our this Blog Page.

Please be ON TIME to participate in any group adventure.  Hikes START at the listed time.

Wednesday June 16th, 9:00-10:30a.m.  LOCATION:  Wahikuli Beach Park.

For this adventure we will walk the path along the ocean of the Wahikuli Beach Park, then take some time to play in the ocean.  Hike Terrain:  This path is very flat and even ground.  The path moves along the ocean along the beach.  This walk is partly shady but it will be hot.  Please be sure to bring plenty of water for you and your dog and sunblock if you need.  We will begin this adventure by walking the entire path.  Near the end of our walk we will stop to practice our Sit-Stay pictures.  After our hike, anyone who would like to stay can join us for a dip in the ocean.  This beach is directly off the highway.  If your dog does not have a good recall or cannot be fully trusted off leash, please be sure to bring a long line leash for the ocean part of our adventure.  Directions:   We will meet in the parking lot at the light of the intersection of Honoapiilani highway and Leiali’i Parkway in Lahaina (this is the same stop light where the post office is located on mountain side of the highway).  We will park here then do our walk and return to the cars before going into the ocean.
